Focus Asia

East Asia

East Asia is a sub-region of Asia consisting of

  • Mainland China (with Hong Kong & Macau)
  • Japan
  • North & South Korea
  • Mongolia
  • Taiwan

However, the most common idea of the region of East Asia includes a powerful economic trifecta: Mainland China (with Hong Kong and Macau), Japan and (South) Korea.

These countries have, in their own way, shaped progress for the region in the past decades. Specifically, the region has heavily benefited from the recent industrialization wave in the 20th century, as it was previously the case with the Keiretsu in Japan or the Korean Chaebol.

With a total area of almost 12 million square kilometers, and its vast population of over 1.65 billion people, East Asia is one of the largest regions worldwide. Its nominal GDP surpassed 20 trillion US$ in 2018, making it a key player for development & business in the wider region of Asia, including neighbor regions such as South East Asia.

The South East Asian (ASEAN) Region is without a doubt one of the most important regions for businesses. With a population of over 650 million people spanning across

  • Brunei Darussalam
  • Cambodia
  • Indonesia
  • Lao PDR
  • Malaysia
  • Myanmar
  • Philippines
  • Singapore
  • Thailand
  • Viet Nam

it is recognized as the world's third largest market with a nominal GDP of 3.0 trillion US$.

Over the recent years, we have seen a majority of businesses, mostly Multi National Corporations expanding their business and operations within the ASEAN region, which underscores the importance of ASEAN region to the world economy.

With these important statistics, Asia is certainly a destination you cannot afford to miss in expanding your business.

In South East Asia, MCI CLT is mainly focused on Indochina - the "new" Tiger States: Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Thailand. Therefore, we maintain our offices in Hanoi and Bangkok.

With its offices located in Hong Kong and Shenzhen, Mainland China & its SAR Hong Kong poses specific interest in East Asia for MCI CLT, with future expansion remaining a lucrative possibility due to the rapid nature of technological advances in the region overall.
